About Us
The Community Children’s Dental Center was founded in 2004 by a small group of concerned citizens who had first hand knowledge of the difficulties children with Medicaid insurance had being seen by area dentists. A social worker, a philanthropic dentist, a retired doctor and an accountant, all with big hearts, worked tirelessly to come up with a business model that would be sustainable. The group formed The Charlottesville Area Dental Access Inc. tax exempt charity that opened The Community Children’s Dental Center in August of 2005. The mission statement: To provide quality dental care to the underserved children of our community that have little or no access to private dentists. With one part-time dentist and donated equipment, the Center started out slow; with only part –time service hours 4 days a week. By June 30, 2007 there were 1,020 patients enrolled and the Center was making headway in their mission. We are proud to report that we currently have over 4,000 patients and are providing service 5 days a week. We hope to continue growing and reach as many of the 30,000 children in need throughout our community as possible.
